Martyn Krys and Filmlegals Entertainment Law are based in Toronto, Canada with clients across the country.

Martyn has a business degree (with distinction) from the University of Alberta and a law degree from Queens University, Kingston.

After living in London England, and sojourning through South America, Martyn entered the practice of law in 1986.

The late 1980′s and early 1990′s was a time of great growth in Canada’s feature film industry and Martyn quickly became legal counsel to many of Canada’s emerging auteur filmmakers of this period. These filmmakers have now firmly established themselves in the industry and include: Academy nominee Atom Egoyan ( The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica, Where the Truth Lies); Bruce MacDonald (Roadkill, Highway 61, American Whiskey Bar) Guy Maddin (Careful, Twilight of the Ice Nymphs), and Jeremy Podeswa (The Five Senses) amongst many others.

Since those early days, Martyn has represented clients in most fields of entertainment including: film, television, music, music videos, music supervision, composing, book publishing, legitimate theatre, web design, computer games… As a result he has represented film and tv producers, writers, directors, actors, dancers, musicians, composers, novelists, children’s authors, computer game designers, photographers and live theatre producers.

Martyn has also been active with corporate clients in the entertainment industry including the Actra Performers Guild and the Talent Agents and Managers Association of Canada (TAMAC).
In 1995 he assisted Actra in its negotiations with the Canadian Film and Television Producers Association of Canada (CFPTA). Currently he represents TAMAC.

Martyn has acted as director for a number of entertainment industry organizations including: the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) and the EUCLID Theatre. He participated in the formation of ALAS (Artists’ Legal Advice Services) and has been a director of the DRCC (Directors’ Rights Collective of Canada.)
Currently he is the President and a director of Kaeja d’Dance.
