Are you ready for Crowdfunding in Ontario? Come January 25, 2016 Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia will all be introducing Crowdfunding. Saskatchewan should follow shortly. All will operate under harmonized rules (with some local differences). The details appear to be much the same as already suggested in previous blogs with a few new wrinkles. If an investor is not an “accredited” investor, then the $2,500/investment to a maximum annual limit of $10,000 will apply as previously noted. Now there is an additional provision for “accredited investors” who will be restricted to a $25,000/investment cap and an annual $50,000 limit. There are additional wrinkles for accredited Ontario investors; more of that later.
